Sierra Nevada Information
When thinking of Spain and Andalucia, you may not have an image of impressive snow covered mountain peaks catering for one of the world's most exclusive winter sports. However, it happens to be home a very popular ski resort and contains the highest point of continental Spain.
Sierra Nevada (meaning snowy range in Spanish) defies many concepts associated with skiing. Its closeness to the Mediterranean coastline means that it has practically guaranteed sunshine and the best spring snow conditions in Europe. It is also very reasonably priced, especially when compared to many other European ski resorts. As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long ski season and traditionally opens in late November and running through to the end of April.
An advantage that very few ski resorts are able to boast, is that you are practically guaranteed sunshine throughout your stay – remember that the Costa del Sol is known for sunshine over 300 days per year. So it is superb for brushing up on the deepest ski tan. Visitors are amazed at how the snow lasts during the blue skied, sunny days. And whilst staying in any of Sol Villas holiday properties, or making the Costa del Sol your home, you can reach the Sierra Nevada in just 2 and a half hours!
Whilst Sierra Nevada is not the largest resort, any advanced skier or snowboarder will find plenty to amuse and test themselves. The resort is very good for complete beginners and intermediates, and the runs are popular with all for their width and length and providing plenty of space to manoeuvre.
Costa del Sol is a perfect place to visit to combine many pastimes…..You won't find another place where you can ski in the morning then play golf in the sunshine or relax on the beach in the afternoon.
