Property in Fuengirola

Fuengirola is a large town and municipality and a major tourist resort on the Costa del Sol, with more than 8 km of beaches, and home to a medieval Moorish fortress.

Fuengirola lies just 20 minutes west of Malaga's international airport and good local train and bus services provide easy access to neighbouring resorts along this stretch of the Costa del Sol. Solvillas Spain Real Estate Fuengirola Costa del Sol

Since the advent of the package tourist industry in the 1960s this former fishing village has been transformed into a modern high-rise resort favoured by Spanish nationals and foreign alike.

Visitors flock here to enjoy the glorious sandy beaches served by all the essential requirements of the modern tourist - bars, restaurants, entertainment, high rise hotels and self-catering apartments. The beach front is flanked by one of the longest promenades on the Costa - it was recently widened and landscaped by the local authorities to provide the perfect venue for the traditional and popular Spanish past time of promenading - strolling without a specific destination in mind!

Because of its history as a sea trading and fishing town, you'll find a wealth of first class seafood restaurants with local dishes freshly prepared using the catch of the day.

Fuengirola has the Costa del Sol's only zoo and the big water park on the Fuengirola by-pass at Mijas Costa is a great family day out.

Next to the main resort area you'll find Los Boliches where the winding narrow streets and traditional whitewashed houses are a reminder of the way life used to be in Fuengirola.

Although Fuengirola is a comparatively developed resort, it does also have a number of historical sites and open parks. The old port is still used by the local Spanish fisherman. The Arab castle of Suhayl, or Sohail, remained an abandoned ruin until renovations began in 1995. In 2000 the interior of the castle was completely renovated and the Sohail castle begun to host festivals and concerts throughout the summer. Additional landscaping was completed in 2002 and the castle is now one of the highlights of Fuengirola's cultural and historical scene.

Of the approximately 60,000 inhabitants registered in the municipality, 25% come from other countries, mainly European (England, Ireland, Scotland, Finland and Sweden, among others), Morocco and Argentina. In the summer especially, the town plays host to hoards of visitors both Spanish and foreign, but in particular British. The English community in particular is large enough to support a fully developed programme of activities and local groups.

The area of Fuengirola is actually quite varied giving a great choice of properties for sale. From coastal properties to golf properties Fuengirola is an ideal choice for many.
